Ludwig van Beethoven:
Sonata no. 23 in F minor, op. 57 "Appassionata"
Franz Schubert:
Sonata No. 21 in B flat major, D 960

It is a great programmatic arc that Rudolf Buchbinder spans from Mozart to Beethoven to Franz Schubert's last sonata. Mozart's variation work is inspired by a French folk song as a "light-footed" contrast. Beethoven's "Appassionata" sonata is part of Buchbinder's main repertoire
and is passionately reinterpreted by him time and again. Finally, Schubert's B flat major
Sonata, composed in the year of his death, opens up a profoundly emotional world of sound. As every year, Rudolf Buchbinder's visit is one of the musical highlights of our festival.
