After the brilliant success of the Oberton String Octet two years ago, we are delighted to invite this refreshing ensemble back for our opening concert. In addition to a popular Mozart Divertimento, the ensemble will present Grieg's Holberg Suite, one of the most popular chamber orchestra pieces.
The centrepiece of the evening is the String Octet by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. A rousing work, which the then 16-year-old child prodigy presented to the public in autumn 1825 and which thus celebrates its 200th birthday! Alongside the "A Midsummer Night's Dream" overture, it is one of the composer's undisputed masterpieces: music full of melodic richness, youthful freshness and cheerfulness.
