The village landmarkt of St. Georgen im Attergau stands next to the river called "Dürre Ager". If the aged linden tree could speak, it would tell us a story about her past as a place of justice in the 16th century. The tree once served as a tree of justice, under which legal disputes were formally decided.
The 1000 old „lime tree im gries“is one of the oldest tree in the country. The tree was planted in the year 1114. In the same year the church spire was built. The tree is about 30 m high and has a scale of 29 meter. In the year 1912 the tree trunk was filled with cement, because the tree was very rotten and cupped.
The countess from Kogl helped to restore the tree. In the year 1947 the tree trunk caught fire and a „tree surgeon“had to remove the cement. Nevertheless the cupped tree is still a beautiful and historical contemporary witness.
