Litzlberg Castle is located on a small island in Lake Attersee in Seewalchen am Attersee - private property
First mentioned in the 14th century, a small fortress was the centre of the Litzlberg dominion. In the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1780. Some of the demolition material was used to rebuild the burnt-down village of Schörfling (fires in Schörfling in 1787 and 1828). Now, no building stood on the approximately 6000 m² island for over 100 years.
How Schloss Litzlberg came into being on the island and who its owners are and were can be read here.
