A traditional Steckerlfisch is usually a mackerel or a regional trout or char. For this tasty Upper Austrian speciality, the fish is marinated and grilled on a wooden stick ("Steckerl"). It is usually served with the classic potato salad and bread or pastries. The Steckerlfisch is served together with the Steckerl, usually on paper instead of on a plate.
