Sunday, July 26, 2026, 7:00 pm Parish Church of St. Georgen
Johannes Brahms: Sonata for cello and piano in E minor, op. 38
Ludwig van Beethoven: Variations on "Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen" for cello and piano from the opera The Magic Flute, WoO 46
Richard Strauss: Sonata for cello and piano in F major, op. 6
This evening is a tribute by his son Matthias to his father Franz Bartolomey, the long-time principal cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, who was one of the most influential artists at our festival for decades.
Three works that were part of Franz Bartolomey's core repertoire will be performed. They formed part of the soundscape of the family home for the son from an early age and were formative for his own career.
Perhaps some of the visitors still have the incomparable cello sound of Franz Bartolomey in their ears... his famous lion's head cello is now in the hands of his son. Now the next generation is making music.
Touching and exciting at the same time!
