Experience UNESCO World Heritage up-close – at the pavilions dedicated to the pile dwelling culture in the Salzkammergut region!
The famous pile dwelling settlements on the shores of Lake Attersee and Lake Mondsee are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Two information pavilions were set up on Lake Attersee – ideal spots for plunging into the pile dwelling culture.
‘A year in the pile dwelling settlement’
The pavilion in Attersee am Attersee explores the question why the pile dwellers settled on the lake shores and what the regions were like at that time. After all, just like the people were influenced by their environment, they also altered the environment. The stories related at the pavilion talk about this and about how the pile dwellers were organised socially and how they lived together.
In all probability, the settlements in the Salzkammergut were built on the dry lakeshores. It was only in the course of the millenia that they were submerged by the lake.
