Prof. Dr. techn. Viktor Kaplan is the inventor of the water turbine named after him, which is used worldwide by rivers and streams for electric power generation.
He acquired the Rochuspoint estate, which was idyllically situated over Lake Attersee in 1920. Kaplan died there in August 1934 and was buried in a newly built mausoleum at Rochuspoint.
In Unterach am Attersee, a pavilion and a fountain designed as a monument in the recreational area as well as the Kaplan Thematic Trail commemorate the famous inventor and honorary citizen of the community.
In the pavilion, twelve panels depict the life and invention of Viktor Kaplan.
On the hike over the well signposted Viktor-Kaplan-Thematic Trail, which starts at the main square and leads over the Kohlstatt in the direction of Mondsee, you reach first the property Rochuspoint and then the mausoleum. In eleven stops along the way interesting information boards inform about Kaplan's life on Rochuspoint and other topics
