Franz-Karl-Ginzkey Memorial

Seewalchen am Attersee, Oberösterreich, Österreich

A granite monument, seven-metres high and located just above the Litzlberger Keller reminds us of this writer, who lived in Seewalchen for more than 40 years.

Franz Karl Ginzkey started out as an officer in the imperial Army and worked as a cartographer at the Military Geographical Institute from 1893 onwards. Peter Rosegger had recognised his talent as a writer and finally, Franz Karl Ginzkey dedicated his life entirely to writing. His most famous book has become a children's classic, 'Hatschi Bratschis Luftballon' (1904), his poems and novels are written in late-romantic style with a strong focus on nature and the home land. Franz-Karl Ginzkey was one of the co-founders of the Salzburger Fsetspielel. At first, he visited Seewalchen during the summers, but from 1944 onwards, the village became his main residence.
