Biscuits, bacon, Beuschl and beer - it's all allowed in winter! And to make sure you get to feast properly in the coming months, we reveal the best places for winter moments of pleasure in Upper Austria here. Enjoy your meal!
Often still "cow-warm", the milk from the farm is processed directly into high-quality products at the Doff farm cheese dairy. Sliced cheese, camembert, farmer's feta, cream cheese balls and fruit yoghurt. Eva Hemetsberger has a very special gourmet tip for the winter. The cheese wrapped in bacon and preserved in oil not only tastes good but is also perfect for raclet. The farm shop at Hofkäserei Doff is open every Saturday from 14:00 to 17:00 and by appointment.
Even in winter, you can enjoy original Italian pizza and pasta right in the centre of Steinbach am Attersee at "Da Charly". Charly, born and raised in Calabria, spoils us with his culinary skills. After many years in the Gortana Passage in Wels, he moved to Steinbach am Attersee a few years ago. The view directly into the pizza oven is particularly nice in winter, when you are usually sitting inside. So you can watch his pizza as it finishes baking.
With or without snow: an absolute must in winter in the Attersee-Attergau region is a visit to the Födinger Alm in Weyregg am Attersee. There, after an easy hike, you can enjoy not only a beautiful view, but also a true classic of Austrian cuisine: a Beuschl served with bread dumplings.
It belongs to Austria like snow belongs to winter and is a popular bet for curling. The Gasthof Gugg in Gampern offers "ice safety" thanks to its cooled curling rinks. Of course, the groups can decide on their own wager. Traditionally, the winners can look forward to an invitation to a roast pork with cabbage and dumplings. We recommend a home-brewed Gugg beer to accompany the roast pork.
The beers from the Kaltenböck brewery in Attersee am Attersee have won several awards. Since 2012, the brewery has even been growing its own barley and hops in its own fields and processing them for the beer. A highlight for beer lovers during Advent is the annual Kramperlbock tapping around 5 December in the in-house cider tavern Hoangarten. The expressive dark bock with a light brownish foam has an impressive aroma of cocoa and sponge cake. The finish is full-bodied with a bitter tone, without the hops overpowering the flavours of the malt. The beer is unfiltered and natural. The multi-award-winning Kramperlbock from the Kaltenböck brewery is available directly on site at the Hoangarten cider tavern and from the farm. Cheers!
