When Mahler wrote his Third, he drew up a programmatic plan for the titles and character of the movements. For a long time, he wanted to use his 1892 song Das himmlische Leben as the finale. In his concept, the title of the movement was "What the child tells me". This recital is dedicated to this original idea and ends, naturally, with the aforementioned song.
