Opening concert of the Philharmonic Concerts 2026
There will be a special moment at the opening concert of the Philharmonic Summer Concerts 2026: Prof. Peter Wächter, who has shaped the concert series for over 25 years, intends to retire from the directorship. He will be succeeded by Volkhard Steude, a musician who, as concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera, has stood for sound culture, experience and artistic responsibility for decades.
Musically, the two will meet on stage this evening - Volkhard Steude on the 1st violin, Peter Wächter on the 2nd violin. Together with Christoph Hammer, Peter Somodari and Catalina Butcaru, they create a program with Mozart and Dvořák: elegant, intimate, lively - a prelude that awakens anticipation for everything to come.
