In order to play chamber music, artists must trust each other and breathe music together. These are parameters that Volkhard Steude and Peter Somodari, concertmaster and principal cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic, take for granted. Together with the wonderful pianist Jasminka Stancul, one of our regular artists, they have created a trio formation in a class of its own.

These are two masterpieces of piano trio literature: Mendelssohn's highly emotional and humorous trio, whose scherzo is reminiscent of his famous Midsummer Night's Dream Overture, and Schubert's B flat major trio: a late work, composed a year before his death, it nevertheless radiates light-heartedness and joie de vivre. Alongside the E flat major Trio, it is one of the pinnacle works of chamber music literature.
