Right on the shores of the Lake you´ll find the Huthaus, the former home of the local forester, that today houses the Local Heritage Museum.
If you ever wanted to learn anything about loggers of the past and their tools of trade, this is the place to visit. Just before the Kienbach river flows into the lake, you can find the “Huthaus“, the former accommodation of the Imperial and Royal Saline Rangers. At this spot used to be an "interstation", where the wood, which was drifting downstream, was kept in storage before it was transported across the lake to Weißenbach by "Plätten". The wood, which was needed for brewing coppers in Ebensee in order to produce salt, was lifted over the divide in the Weißenbach valley by a wood-elevator and then transported over the Weißenbach into the Traun. This elevator was in use from 1722 to 1968. Its replica is exhibited at the local museum inside the “Huthaus“ and can be visited every Wednesday (or upon notice) in July and August.
