Many a thousand years ago, the glacier 'Traungletscher' melted and the Moor of Gerlham ('Gerlhamer Moor') developed in the area of its terminal moraines around Seewalchen.

10 years ago an Austrian youth association dedicated to the conservation of nature bought this bog and has been responsible for it since then. The group of environmentalists have taken over a 12-acre landscape. In accordance with their motto, which is to protect nature and preserve culture they carry out investigations into the flora and fauna of the bog. The bog is just a 20 minute walk from the public beach in Litzlberg. On the edge of the moor, visitors can find an information panel. Intereseted guests will find out, that as early as in Roman times, rye was grown on Lake Attersee and that the Romans had a hard time getting rid of plantain here.
