This year there are 10 years UNESCO - World Cultural Heritage Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps, for which from 26 March 2021 a special exhibition is planned in the ATARHOF with the Curatorship Pile Dwellings with the following content.

The UNESCO - World Heritage, its importance and our mission - 4500 years of civilization history of the rural everyday culture of Europe in the pile dwellings - history, methods and outstanding results of pile dwelling research - the pile dwelling stations at Lake Attersee and Lake Mondsee - protection measures for the World Heritage - places and methods of imparting knowledge about prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps.

The year 2021 should also provide the opportunity to be able to implement further topics for the planned cooperation between the museums of the REGION OF THE PILE Dwelling WORLD HERITAGE OF SALZKAMMERGUT. For this purpose, further cooperation discussions are necessary, in which Archekult in Traunkirchen will also be involved.

Currently, two exhibition contents can be experienced in the ATARHOF - as soon as the museum is allowed to reopen.

Understanding the diversity of pile dwellings around the Alps
With the help of diagrams and models, one gets an impression of the diversity of the pile-dwelling cultures around the Alps and their contacts with each other. A replica of Ötzi, Stone Age tools and Stone Age ceramics introduce visitors to the life of the pile dwellers with a virtual tour of a pile dwelling village, interactive picture shows and riddles.

Attersee, fish, fishing, research
In display boards, a showcase, models of dugouts and ship, the history of origins, ecology, their limnological research and the methods as well as equipment of fishing in Lake Attersee from prehistory to today are presented.

New opening hours for the Museum ATARHOF are:
Every Friday: 14:00 - 17:00 o'clock
Every Sunday: 10:00 - 13:00 o'clock
