From August 20th to 22nd, 2021 the meanwhile 16th Soling Zipfer Trophy will be held in the Union Yachtlclub Attersee. From today's perspective, more than 30 boats of the former Olympic Soling class with more than 80 active sailors from four nations are expected on the Attersee.
The Soling was developed in the mid-1960s to replace the 5.5 as an Olympic class and was Olympic from 1972 to 2000. It is a sporty keelboat that is sailed with a crew of three. The key data are: length 8.20 m, width 1.90 m, draft 1.30 m, weight 1,035 kg, sail area close to the wind 25 square meters, spinnaker max. 45 square meters. Although the Soling is concentrated in the keel with more than half of its total weight, it sails like a dinghy in many ways. The shape of the hull and keel allows the ship to go very high on the wind. At the same time, however, the Soling can glide on broad courses under spinnaker, provided the wind is strong enough. These parameters are the reason that the Soling is still a popular regatta class today.
Exciting competitions are inevitable!
Also this year the event manager managed to win the sponsor Zipfer for this event. For the participants, this means that as soon as they enter the country, they will be provided with a glass of bright joy!
