It is a relict of the former lakeside forest of Lake Attersee. The only natural lakeside forest is located in the village of Attersee am Attersee between the villages of Aufham and Altenberg. In addition to a unique stand of old trees, it is also a valuable habitat for animals. In 1987, an area of about 1.8 hectares was designated a nature reserve. **Learn more about the "Aufhamer Uferwald"!** **Discover the Aufhamer Uferwald a valuable relict** The Aufhamer Uferwald is the only relict of the former lakeside forest of Lake Attersee, which originally covered the entire shore of Lake Attersee. The only natural lakeshore lies between the villages of Aufham and Altenberg and is covered by the Aufhamer Uferwald. Only the Aufhamer Uferwald remains as a coherent forest stand. **PROTECTED PLANTS IN THE AUFHAM RIPARIAN FOREST Remarkable old trees** The riparian forest extends over 800 m along the lakeshore and reaches its maximum dimensions at approx. 80 m in width. The 800 m long near-natural deciduous forest with copper beech, ash, sycamore maple, hornbeam and English oak has a remarkable stock of old trees. The mightiest trees have a trunk circumference of 6.40 m and a trunk height of 30 m. The special stock of old trees and the uniqueness of this riparian forest in the Attersee area were the main reasons for the protection of the riparian forest in 1982. **PROTECTED ANIMALS IN THE AUFHAMER RIPARIAN FOREST Protected spawning sanctuary in front of the riparian forest** Not only the riparian forest is an important habitat but also the water area in front of the Aufham riparian forest. The water area in front of the Uferwald is a valuable and protected spawning sanctuary on Lake Attersee.
