**Reinthaler Moos - nature reserve since 1990**
Thanks to its large area, a unique spring tufa with swamp forest has formed in the Reinthaler Moos directly west of the village of Attersee am Attersee. Adjacent to this is a black alder forest and a near-natural red beech forest. The overgrown boggy area (Ried) is free of trees and is home to several springs, with rock-hard moss mounds growing out between them. It provides a habitat for unique plants. In 1990, an area of 12 ha was designated as a nature reserve by decree of the province of Upper Austria.

**UNIQUE spring tufa in Attersee am Attersee**
The Reinthaler Moos is a unique spring tufa in Upper Austria, due to its size, in the village of Attersee am Attersee. Tufa formation occurs as a result of the discharge of highly calcareous water. (Calcareous sinter, deposits in the immediate area of the spring) Plants typical of the site, especially mosses, play a decisive role in the formation of the calcareous tuffs. In a small area, alkaline and more acidic micro-biotopes are interlocked with acidophiles such as stiff hair-cap moss, round-leaved sundew, heather and blueberry.

**PROTECTED PLANTS IN THE REINTHAL MOSS
Black button rush, swallow-root gentian; orchids & more**
In addition to the lime-forming mosses, the black button rush occurs in the Reinthaler Moos. Intermediate lime bogs provide ideal living conditions for this plant. It is also called black button rush (Schoenus nigricans) and is one of our rarest plant species in our province. Only two locations in Upper Austria are known! Numerous plant species including the swallow-wort gentian and numerous orchids feel at home in the Reinthalermoos.
