The monument was erected on 27 May 1984 by the local association for the embellishment of the community. Hannes Haslecker was the first to come up with a concept but the second idea by professor Max Stockenhuber was awarded the realisation. At the Heimathaus (museum of local history) in Gmundnerstraße, interesting exhibits bring to life the work of the raftsmen which constituted an important economic factor in the Attersee region.
