In the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1780. Some of the demolition material was used to rebuild the burnt-down village of Schörfling ([fires in Schörfling in 1787 and 1828](http://www.atterwiki.at/index.php?title=Katastrophen)).
