The floor planks of the overloaded ship broke, leading to 88 people dying the floods of the lake. Many houses in Weyregg stood empty after this catastrophe. To commemorate the largest accidents that has happened on the Attersee so far, the people of Weyregg, together with the aid of all associations, built up this chapel, 250 years after the accident happened. The chapel was blessed on the 20th of September 1992.
