The late Gothic, two-nave, net-vaulted hall church with the 72 m high tower is the special "landmark" of the market. Around 1400, people started to build this large hall over a smaller church. On June 17, 1435 the front part of the church (presbytery) was consecrated. The new, rebuilt altar of sacrifice is made of old stones with this inscription. Around 1496 the two-nave hall was completed, thus connecting the church and the tower. The last bay on the ground floor (today's warrior chapel) was built as an open entrance hall for George rides. Nothing of the Gothic interior has been preserved. Fires, renovations and iconoclasm (1633) destroyed everything. In the 18th century the interior was baroqueized. The pulpit (from 1713) was made by Meinrad Guggenbichler. The high altar was built by Josef Ignaz Holzinger, the altarpiece was designed by Bartolomeo Altomonte, the angels are again the work of Meinrad Guggenbichler, as is the Pieta in the war chapel. At the large church portal, built around 1636, one should not overlook the tombstone of the church founder Otto D. Preuner (born 24. 2. 1400), a fresco above the entrance gate shows pastor Heinisch with the market St. Georgen and castle Kogl. In 1965, during a church restoration, the tombstone of the presumed founder was found and placed in the vestibule. It bears the inscription: In the year of our Lord 1400, Mr. Otto died in our name Preuner, lieutenant priest of this church, on the day of St. Apostle Matthew (= 24 Feb.). The new, two-manual Pirchner organ (21 stops), whose case is stylistically related to the pulpit, was consecrated in 1991. We would like to point out the richly paneled late Gothic south gate with the reticulated vaulted porch and the imposing church tower, which bears the uncertain date 1114. The onion-shaped helmet, characteristic of the current appearance, was erected after a fire in 1823. In 1983 the parish church was last renovated. In 2013 the entire interior will undergo renovation.
