The UYCAs was founded in 1886 and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2011. It is one of the oldest sailing clubs in Austria.
History of the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee

1886 – 1899
Engineer Edward Drory comes to Vienna in the 80s of the 19th century on business to build up the Viennese gas supply. A universal sportsman (sailing, tennis, swimming, cycling, ice skating) Drory became involved in boat building and spent his free time on Lake Neusiedl and the Old Danube. At the suggestion of Edward Drory, the Union Yacht Club was founded on April 21, 1886. Drory's idea was to unite all yachting enthusiasts in one club, with the same statutes and club standards. In the following years the UYC also takes over the representation of Austrian yachtsmen towards foreign countries.

Many Viennese spend their summer holidays in the Salzkammergut at this time. On July 10, 1886, Eugen Freiherr von Ransonnet-Villez founds the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee as a branch of the Union-Yacht-Club. The aim is sportive and social get-together. From 1887 the "Attersee Woche" is held as an annual regatta series off Litzlberg.

1900 – 1945
From the turn of the century, jetty facilities and boat sheds are built at the UYCAs. In 1908 Gustav Fritz donates the clubhouse, chief engineer Josef Stierböck leads the construction. In gratitude, both gentlemen become honorary members of the UYCAs. The "special class" has a special meaning in the sailing life of these years, one of the main bases of the special classes is then and until today the Attersee and the UYCAs. 1938 the Union-Yacht-Club is dissolved and all Austrian sailing clubs are affiliated to the German Sailing Association.

1946 until today
In 1946 the Austrian Sailing Association is founded and the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee is re-established as an independent club. Today there are nine Union-Yacht-Clubs, which are connected in the loose "UYC Traditionsverband" (founded on December 11, 1960). In the 1950s, many keelboats (starboats, dragons) again find their home on Lake Attersee. The club facilities are constantly expanded. In 2005 and 2006 the UYCAs is honored by the ÖSV as "Absolute Best Club" for the sporting achievements of the UYCAs sailors.

Today the UYCAs has over almost 1000 members and is therefore the largest Austrian sailing club.
