Welcome to the ATARHOF!

Located at the landing place of Attersee am Attersee, our small museum is set up in the old Hagerhaus in the rooms of the old post office.

Get inspired now and try out the 360° Perspectives Tour!

In cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Prehistoric Lake Dwellings around the Alps", new, scientific exhibitions and workshops are presented.

- Landscape and settlement at Lake Attersee
- Living and nutrition in the Stone Age
- Fish and fishing once and now

The ATARHOF Attersee, Landungsplatz 1, in addition to its exhibitions "10 Years of UNESCO World Heritage - Research, Protection, Education" and "Fishing Once and Now", will also present
the famous Ötzi, who lived in the Ötztal Alps about 3000 BC - here called Atti.

The most famous sites around the Alps are presented in a sound show. Since 2011, 111 archaeological sites from prehistoric times have formed the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Prehistoric Lake Dwellings around the Alps"; three of them are located at Lake Attersee and one at Lake Mondsee.
Many museums and exhibition sites offer guided tours, information, foam material and also workshops. In the meantime, an own, exciting mediation culture has developed on the findings from prehistoric times.  With our workshops (pottery as in prehistory and dyeing with natural colours), the MUSEUM ATARHOF also makes an important contribution to prehistoric topics.

The prehistoric garden - close to the ATARHOF MUSEUM - offers an insight into the importance of nature for FOOD, MEDICINE and DYING with examples of 45 useful plants. Detailed descriptions (botanical information, uses and ingredients) about the plants can be found on a display board.
WORKSHOP - Prehistoric pottery.

Content of the workshops: The focus is on night pottery of the 4th millennium BC, the Mondsee Group. After insights into the material and its preparation, the possibilities of vessel construction will be presented.  Another focus is the treatment of the surfaces (smoothing, polishing). The techniques of surface decoration up to incrustation (filling of the engraved decorations with white paste) will also be presented.
