The romans - the exhibition -1800 years of summer resorts at lake Attersee

Ever since, the picturesque landscape of the Upper Austrian lake district has attracted people to settle here. Therefore, we have an accordingly rich archaeological heritage preserved up to now: Two pile dwelling settlements of the New Stone Age are known in Weyregg area and 1800 years ago during Roman Age, one of the first luxury villas was built here.
A 3D model of the luxury villa with lake view, showcases with finds from the excavations, a mini cinema situation on the history of research and reconstruction, as well as a large illustration with integrated switching elements, are waiting for you.
In addition, a stereoscope station was built at the elementary school, which conjures up a 3D reconstruction of the main villa building in the landscape.
For the young visitors applies - play like the Romans did!
MOLA ROTUNDA, a round mill game for two, or LUDUS DELTA, a triangle game with nuts - or LUDUS ASTRAGALUS, a skill's dice game with sheep's ankle bones!
Archaeological discoveries deliver only a small part of the Roman gambling spectre because catching or running games or everyday materials converted into playing materials are not at all registered. Typical utensils like nuts for throwing and striking games, cloth or wood for creating dolls or pig and beef bladders for making balls are very rarely preserved. Ankle bones of sheep or goats (astragali) and nuts cannot always be identified as game utensils. Marbles (murmures), dices (alea), counters (latrunculi) and playing boards are easier to be identified in discoveries.
